The City of Goodyear exists today because of the cotton fields of yesteryear. It was part of the 16,000 acres purchased in 1917 for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company out of Akron Ohio. Paul Litchfield Jr. Executive of the company was sent to establish cotton fields to make rubber tires for airplanes and automobiles during World War I.
The town was incorporated in 1946, at the time it had 151 homes, 250 apartments and a few general stores. In 1985 Goodyear became a city and has become one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Proximity to downtown Phoenix has inspired some of the Valley’s most inspired master planned communities.
